Thirteen years ago when I first started teaching writing, I didn't know the effect it would have on my life, family, and faith. I'm pleased to see many of my students further their education, earning certificates, Bachelor's, and Master's degrees. Others attain successful careers in industry, business, education, and non-profits. Still others use their considerable talents to bring up the next generation of dedicated, self-aware, and generous people. Thanks to all of you students who make my life's work not only possible, but also a joy!
Dr. Jon Stansell
August 2002 – I started teaching at Parkland College, Illinois. I learned from my students about passion, starting over, and making a difference.
August 2008 – I got hired at BYU-Hawaii. We lived in lovely Laie. The students were wonderful participants in my research and work.
August 2011 – I got a job in Eastern Ohio, at Belmont College. Seeing disadvantages and triumphs alike, I find life and hope in their writing.
March 2015 - Writing the True Self website comes online, bringing students together and offering a place for learners to find resources and inspiration.
